Your first few days at ENS-PSL

How and when can I get my ENS-PSL multifunction card ?

For new Normaliens and Normaliennes students, schedule an individual appointment on the "Les démarches administratives" page to collect your card from 29 August.
For new Master's students, you must first complete your administrative registration to your Master's programme. Once this has been validated, an email will be sent to you with all the information you need to collect your multifunction card.
All card collections take place at 45, rue d'Ulm.

This card is essential for :
  • access to all or part of the ENS premises, depending on the student's assignment,
  • accessing and borrowing books from the ENS libraries,
  • access to the ENS restaurant and cafeteria.
It is the equivalent of a student card and is a valid proof of entitlement to student discounts (at museums, cinemas, transport, etc.).

You can access the restaurant as soon as you obtain your multifunction card and after having credited your restaurant account:
  • by recharging your account via the intranet. Procedure "Rechargement compte restaurant" on the ENS intranet,
  • by credit card at the automatic terminals located at the entrance of the restaurant and in the cafeteria. Remember to ask for your receipt the first time you use the restaurant (users are not given one by default) so that you can obtain your ID number, which can be found at the bottom of the receipt.
For the cafeteria, you can pay using your multifunction card or credit card. It is not possible to pay in cash in either the restaurant or the cafeteria.

Opening hours
  • Restaurant: Monday to Friday, 11.40am to 2pm
  • Cafeteria: Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 4.30pm

Arrival of normaliens living on campus

Where will I live?

Most 1st-year students will have a room at 45 or 44-48 rue d’Ulm, and about 30 of them will live on the Jourdan campus (48 boulevard Jourdan), next to the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris and a stone’s throw from the parc Montsouris. The allocation will be made on a random basis.

All those who have requested accommodation at the ENS will be informed by the DG in August of the campus where their room will be located. Those who will be on the Jourdan campus will be able to go directly there on the day of their arrival, to collect their key at the reception desk and settle in, before going to 45 rue d'Ulm at the time of their appointment to get their multifunction card.

New students will arrive on Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st August. You will pick up your key at the same time as your multifunction card. It is essential to make an appointment via this website's form. Please note that there is no time slot open on Saturdays and Sundays.

International DENS and Master’s students are invited to attend a special welcoming event on August 31st. They will be given the details and the programme in an email message.

Before picking up your key: you must send your bank details as well as a payment authorisation to hebergement@ens.psl.eu when you confirm your coming to ENS and ask for accommodation.

• If your room is located rue d’Ulm (it will be the case if you don’t get a message saying you will be at Jourdan): you will be able to get your keys on Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st August, together with your multifunction card. To do so, simply make an appointment on the dedicated platform and on the day of your appointment, go to salle Weil(ground floor of 45, rue d’Ulm, Pantheon campus).

• If you are staying at Jourdan: you will need to collect your keys from the reception desk at the Jourdan campus. We advise you to choose an afternoon slot for the collection of your multifunction card and to dedicate the morning to your installation on the Jourdan campus. This will allow you to leave your personal belongings in your room before coming to Ulm to collect your card. An e-mail will be sent to you at the end of August with all relevant information.

If you are staying on campus, you have a postal address at 45, rue d’Ulm, 75005 Paris. Please do not forget to specify your room number so that the mail service can deposit your letters in your mail box on the Ulm or Jourdan campuses.

Please note that it usually takes a few weeks to set up the mail boxes. Before that, you will collect your mail at the service courrier opposite the main entrance of the 45.

Parking at 46 rue d’Ulm
For occasional access to this underground car park, contact the DG at dg@ens.psl.eu : they will be able to give you a car park card in exchange for a deposit (ID or €20 by cheque or cash). You can keep this card for 8 days only. The badge is to be passed at the top of the ramp (the reader at the bottom opens the door only halfway, for pedestrians).

Longer or more regular access to the car park at 46 rue d’Ulm is possible for a limited number of vehicles. In order to submit your request, you have to fill out the online form on degetteweb, print it out and send it back to the DG with the necessary documents (including an insurance certificate). If your request can be satisfied, your ENS card will be activated for parking access in the following working days.

Parking at 45 rue d’Ulm

To request it, please send an e-mail at least one working day before you want access to the security staff at 45, rue d’Ulm (securite.ulm@ens.psl.eu). To do so, please send an e-mail at least one working day in advance to the Jourdan security staf (securite.jourdan@ens.psl.eu) indicating your name, first name, contact number, reason and vehicle registration number.

In any case, it is advisable to read the parking regulations.
