The DNA of the ENS

The DNA of the ENS

A unique establishment

Since it was founded in 1794, the École Normale Supérieure has welcomed and trained hundreds of students.  The institution has evolved over the centuries, but its DNA, the very essence of its pedagogy, is still there: training through and for research. This expression may seem far-fetched, but it is what makes ENS-PSL unique. Those who study here benefit from a curriculum directly linked to the laboratories and researchers who work there. These men and women share their work, discoveries and scientific questions with students in real time.

Constructing the great contemporary history of knowledge

Thanks to its 15 departments, the School continues to nourish the curiosity of its students. Everyone can, during their training, fall in love with new disciplines. Chemistry, philosophy, ancient sciences, geosciences, cognitive sciences, and many others... This multidisciplinarity, encouraged throughout the training, encourages discoveries and side steps. And, ultimately, allows us to advance knowledge. Because this is the whole challenge of the École normale supérieure, whose history is punctuated with Nobel Prizes , Fields Medals and CNRS Gold Medals .
The School has housed and will continue to house Nobel Prize winners. But above all it welcomes profiles and career paths committed to serving society and constructing in their own way the great contemporary history of knowledge.
